One More for the Dat

As I said in my first post today, I'm kind of on a post-hospital manic kick right now so here's one last post for the day.

Game Project Stuff

I spend a lot of time making pixel art, both for fun and for little GameMaker projects. I'm gonna try to make an effort to share it more.

What the What!? This Guy's Still Alive?

Hey guys, miss me? Just got out of the hospital and got a big dose of motivation. So along with cleaning my entire apartment, I decided to dig up a couple drawings I've done this year and share them. Same big project as long ago. Two more Scouts (which you've seen if you're following along) and a triad of Prime Tribal leaders.

Teaser

Been working on a new project lately. This time it's a platformer. I learn more every time I start a new project. I'm excited to see how far I'm able to take this one.

Old Self Portraits

I found some old photoshopped self portraits from a couple years ago that never made it onto my blog. Figured I might as well throw em' up right? Anyway, been working on games again, hopefully soon there'll be something to show you guys. I've got lots of good code working but I still need to decide what direction I'm going as far as theme and art are concerned.

Scouts

I don't think I've mentioned it before on my blog, but I have imaginary worlds that I often spend time in when I should be doing something otherwise constructive. And my favorite one is part of a big project I've been tinkering around in for several years now.

Anyway, it's a pretty nerdy endeavor and I've been hesitant to share it. Plus most of it is just in the form of personal notes for myself and nothing I've made has been presentable until now.  But I got an itch finally to draw a few Scouts so finally here is a bit of evidence for all that time and thought. The Scouts are one of several factions in the universe. Anyway, nothing special, just getting back into doing art for the enjoyment and not letting my limitations stop me.

Post-Hiatus

Sorry guys, kinda dropped off the face of the art world for a bit. Got pretty busy with jobs, existential crises, and moving back to California. In other words, life... Anyway, I recently started a Star Wars tabletop RPG online with a few friends online. My fiance and I rolled a smuggler duo named Shi and Jayfor. This was the first piece of art I'd done in a long time. But it felt good to get back to drawing.

Project1:Update4

Hey guys. So this is gonna be my last Project1 update for a while. I'm proud of what I did. I learned a crazy amount from doing it. And it was all really fun. But I've decided to move on for now. I'm sure I'll at least come back and reuse the art.

So if any of you are interested in checking out where I got with my first ever Game Maker game, then here it is.

Controls are WASD, left mouse button, right mouse button, E, and shift.

Stay tuned, soon there will be Update1 of my new project, Starfighter.

Project1:Update3

MY FIRST YOUTUBE VIDEO!!!

Yeah so I finally spent a bit of time figuring out the basics of Fraps and Windows Movie Maker and now those of you who would like to keep up with my game without needing to go through the steps needed to play it. So yeah. The video is short and sweet. Nothing fancy with the game or the editing.

Thanks for checking in. I'll hopefully have another update for you guys soon.

Project1: Update2

Nibs attacking a terrified squirrel
So I'm not on vacation at the moment so my "crunch" is over, but I've still been making progress on Project1. So far I have a basic HUD with health, stamina, and gold. The player can now attack and sprint. And the stamina is all hooked up, complete with a delay on the recharge.

difficult to see in the pic but dust is kicked up when sprinting

Veteran Nibs

I enjoyed this character so much I've played him in two D&D campaigns so far and will likely use him for more. He lost his left arm and leg in a battle between him and his ex-pet dragon Falcor. Since then he's mastered the ancient arts used to make the Constructs of Eberron and has used them to make himself a new arm. The peg leg seems to be working fine so far though, and the materials needed to make the one arm were hard enough to come by as it is.

Project1: Update1

Hey guys, I just started a new project called Project1 using the 2D game engine Game Maker. This is what I have after spending my spring break following tutorials, teaching myself code, and making all the art from scratch.

No combat yet but I have 3 levels that are accessible to each other via warp triggers. Levels fade in when you enter them. NPCs track the hero sprite when within a certain distance. And the basics are set up for a dialogue system.

The game is a side scrolling fighter like Castle Crashers but has open-world navigation like Legend of Zelda. Each level has 6 potential layers of parallax motion when the camera moves.

Earth and Fire

So my good friend Jeffery Barros is a talented loresmith who makes up some pretty cool stories. Anyway he gave me a write up of some of the gods in his current project and asked if I wanted to take a crack at some of them. So here are the first two I did. Terra and War, the gods of earth and fire. Next up is are the gods of Sea and Sky.
